There is a wide range of prices for your cabinetry, what’s the difference between the economy lines and the more expensive options?

Price is a function of materials, finish, construction methods, hardware and whether the cabinets are of a standard size. The amount of detailing on the doors and whether the cabinets feature inset or full overlay doors is a factor as well. Generally speaking, all wood cabinets are more expensive than those with composite fabrication. Dovetailed joints and heavier glides and hinges are more costly and the more detailed the doors and molding, the greater the investment as well.

We carry a broad range of options that give you the flexibility to select cabinets that fit both your taste and your budget. The real value of the more expensive options is seen over time. The better grades of cabinets look better and last longer and the doors and drawers continue to close smoothly. With proper care, the better cabinets last for generations. Economy choices require a bit more attention as they age but with proper care they too serve for many years.

What makes Charleston Building & Development different from other home builder’s and remodelers? Why should I choose Charleston for my project?

A couple of things make us unique in the marketplace. First, we have assembled a great group of designers, tradesmen, and architects that are very client focused. We build a project team for each client’s project and work to create a clear vision of what our client wants and how best to realize it. Secondly, one of the owners is involved daily as a member of the team and supervises the project from beginning to end. Lastly, we continually refine our process to make our client experience the best it can be. We acquired a showroom so that the clients can enjoy easy one-stop-shopping for materials and fixtures. Our past customers have told us that we were chosen because they trusted us to build a high-quality project and meet the budget and timing requirements.

How much experience do you have in the residential construction business?

We have been building custom homes for over twenty years. Our remodeling and kitchen and bath services are an outgrowth of the custom home experience.

I am working with a limited budget for remodeling my home, can you still help me?

Maybe. Historically our niche in terms of custom homes has been in the $700K to $3 million range; kitchen and bath projects are $10K and over; additions are $50K and over. In order for us to take on a project, it has to be of a size that makes economic sense and justify the manpower and resources we put into the work. The best thing to do is to contact us and talk through what you have in mind. If we can meet your budget needs and our needs as well, we certainly would welcome the opportunity.

I am overwhelmed at the thought of taking on a larger project. How do I get started?

The best way is to stop in or give us a call. We understand that a residential project is overwhelming. Most people only do this a few times in their lives whereas we do it every day. We can get a feel for what you would like to do, what your budget looks like, and tell you if it is reasonable, what the process is and what the next step should be.

How long will it take to complete a kitchen / bath remodeling project?

That depends. The size and scope of the project bear on the completion time of course, but other things like moving plumbing, electric, or heating and air conditioning mechanicals also are determinants. Generally, we finish an average kitchen or master bathroom remodel in 8 -10 weeks. A smaller bathroom typically takes 5-6 weeks.

What is the average cost of a kitchen / bath remodeling and what factors go into the pricing?

Pricing for kitchen and bath remodels varies greatly depending on the size and scope of the project as well as whether plumbing, electricity, or HVAC has to be relocated. The quality of cabinets selected and countertop materials are also important factors. Flooring and tile are considerations as well. Since we work with a variety of budgets our designers can often mix and match quality levels and find ways to give you the look you are seeking for less than you might expect. The best way to estimate what your project will cost is to stop by or give us a call and schedule a free in-home consultation with one of our designers.

I am interested in building a home in Jefferson estates. What can you tell me about that?

Jefferson Estates is a smaller unique development of luxury custom homes located within walking distance of Downtown Naperville and in School District 203. We have several lots left for sale. The convenient location, together with a generous lot size, makes this a perfect solution for those seeking a new custom luxury home. Give us a call or stop in to arrange a tour of the area and see examples of our work.

I am interested in building a custom home, do you have an architect?

We have relationships with a number of really gifted architects in the area. We chose not to hire an in-house architect so that we could access a variety of professionals with different styles and personalities so that we could make the best match of architect and client. Once we have a feel for the client and their project, we select several architects that we think would work well on the team and the client interviews them. The client then selects the architect with whom they are the most comfortable.

I noticed that many of the homes Charleston Building & Development has built have been quite large. Do you build smaller homes?

Yes. Historically, our clients have wanted larger homes, so that’s what we built. We have detected a shift in the past two years however and seen more interest in more modest-sized custom homes with the same amenities, attention to design detail, and higher-end finishes and materials. The cost per square foot is a bit higher, but the homes are more efficient, lower maintenance, and a bit lower cost overall. A well-designed, smaller-footprint home with wonderful features is a great housing solution for many people.
